CROP IMPROVEMENT

Maize, sorghum, soybean, groundnut, blackgram, wheat, gram and mustard are the prominent crops grown in South and South Eastern part of Rajasthan. Drought is one of the most important abiotic stresses in this part of the state, which adversely affect the growth and yield of the crops. Therefore, concerted efforts were made to develop short duration varieties of maize, sorghum, groundnut, soybean and other important crops grown in the region. Wherever it was not possible to develop varieties, the varieties developed at other institutions/universities were tested and recommended to the farmers for adoption.
